GATEWAY MD 7820 QUICK REVIEW

The new gateway to designing revolution - The Gateway MD 7820 U

This is one of those laptops in which the manufacturers have paid attention to slightest details from user’s point of view. It is not one of those machines, which may look awesome in the advertisement but disappoints when seen in person physically. There are several options available in terms of colors that the users can choose from. It is considered one of the most functional machines available which serves the unique requirements for its users.

The gateway has a 16.9’ widescreen display which is ideal especially while running the multi media applications like movies, games etc. There is appropriate and even lighting on the entire screen including the edges. The notebook works on the Windows Vista Premium operating system, which is a standard feature and comes in preloaded, although the users might be required to customize some of the settings before actually using for the first time.

The major drawback in the note book is its keyboard. It is the weakling in this other wise pretty standard and user friendly machine. There are touch sensitive buttons available to access the media options on the right side of the keyboard. The touch pad available is very large, almost to the extent of being close to the entire width of the screen. It at times looks a bit awkward especially for people who are not very comfortable with large sized touchpad at it can hinder free movement of the hand while typing.

There are a lot of applications which come preloaded in the system. Users can choose the applications that they wish to use and have the option of removing or uninstalling the not to be used applications. The systems camera software pops up on the screens as soon as the cursor is moved to the edge of the screen. The inbuilt 1.3 mega pixel camera comes in very handy when it comes to taking pictures or video conferencing.

The Gateway has a couple of speakers and a built in mic on the front side, although the sound quality is quite low and not clear. Has a good battery life with considerable time is spent away from the main supply station, thus ensuring peace of mind and functionality especially for people on the go.

It works with an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6400 which is quite responsive and fast. Has 320 GB hard drive with 4 GB system memory. Over all it is a physically appealing and better performing notebook with the exception of the disappointing and poor keyboard touchpad layout.

Price: Approx. $450

Gateway MD 7820 Ratings:

Value for money

GATEWAY UNVEILS 14 INCH LAPTOP SYSTEMS

Forgive us if we get too excited over this announcement, but if you havent noticed, we have been deprived of proper laptop news thanks in part to the advent of netbooks. So please understand why we would get hyper over a 14-inch netbook with integrated graphics (9300) and 1.5 inches thick.

Yeah were not sure what makes it so great seeing that it starts at $649.99 and weighs 5.3 pounds. But at least it beats all the netbook news weve been hearing.

As for the rest of the specs: the model will come in 14 and 15 inch flavors (TC7306u and TC7307u respectively). A 1.3 megapixel webcam is included as well as standard Ethernet, Wi-Fi 1366 x 768 resolution panel, built-in multicard reader, 3x USB 2.0 ports and Intels Core 2 Due processor along with dual-layer DVD and 6-cell battery.

As we said, not too impressive but than again its meant to fit the spot between an ultra portable and a full 15-inch notebook.....if there is even such a category.

BUYING A USED LAPTOP

Everybody likes to buy a brand new laptop, but sometimes budget constraints make it impossible. Used/refurbished laptops are the ideal solution for users who don’t want to or can’t afford to buy a brand new laptop.

Before you buy a used laptop make sure that you will be able to upgrade its components when you want to. New and improved networking options arrive almost everyday. If you can’t upgrade the networking capabilities of your laptop, you will not be able to make use of the newest connectivity options.

Used laptop or refurbished laptop – what to buy?
A used laptop is not the same as a refurnished laptop. In fact buying a refurbished laptop is better than buying a used laptop. This is because refurbished laptops are much less likely to have problems. Used laptops, on the other hand, are not certified. They don’t have warranties and there is no guarantee that they will work or for how long. In many cases you will have to make repairs or replace components.
Refurbished laptops are certified for resale. They have warranties and have been closely examined and damaged or worn out parts replaced. In many cases you will be given an opportunity to try the machine before you buy.

Where to buy a refurbished laptop
Check with laptop manufacturers; they will recommend authorized sellers or refurbished laptops.

Design
Business laptops are believed to be the top-of-the-line notebooks, with the uppermost build quality and top notch hold up. My last 3 laptops (including the original D430) were all high quality laptops, and I anticipate the best. The screen building is also imposing, but not as much as the framework construction. As with most notebook screens, the screen can be warped a little bit ... but not virtually as much as other notebooks I have encountered.
Performance
The U7700 is the whole cause for this review. My old D430 and new-fangled D430 had the same precise specifications; apart from that the U7700 is now obtainable in the D430. The U7700 is Intels newest dual core Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) processor, running at a chipper 1.33GHz speed.

As of this script, only one single-core edition of this processor is accessible on the D430 - the U2100 which is a single core 1.06GHz processor. It is ill-fated that Dell continues to proffer a 1.06GHz single core, for the reason that at one point a 1.2GHz single core was obtainable that performed a little superior at the similar price.

While single core processors are mainly an obsolete technology, ultraportable laptops can still take pleasure in the benefits of less heat in the notebook. I used to think that the single core edition of the D430 notebook had better battery, but after testing the battery life on the D430 I am flabbergasted to report the battery life of the dual-core is essentially better than that of the single core adaptation. At this summit, it is secure to say that the single core adaptation of the D430 is no longer a good asset as the dual core ULV processors are not that hot. The frame of the D430 is diminutive and cannot squander much heat, and there is only one tiny fan inside of the laptop directly next to or on top of the processor. The solitary air vent is not very wide either. But they do labor, and work in good health, while the U7700 is stressing the system.
Conclusion
The Dell D430 has made some considerable improvements with the dual-core energize of the laptop. Driver quality, one of my major complaints that could ever be enhanced upon, has evidently improved! While the dual-core version does at times get a little hotter, there is a perceptible improvement in battery life and speeds that I am glad to see in this sculpt.

Pros
+ Essential configuration of D430 is plethora of power and reasonably priced.
+ Framework is very well built, LCD bezel is reasonably strong.
+ Outstanding keyboard and mouse pad.
+ Portability/small size, but still being commanding enough for reasonably intensive tasks.

Cons
- Ambient light sensor is not very practical for me.
- Wi-Fi switch is insignificant.
- Viewing angles are not the best.
- Peripheral DVD drive.

ACER 5920G REVIEW – AN ASPIRING COMBINATION OF GOODIES

The design of Acers 5000 versions, which is recognized by the name Gemstone has the prospective of being a landmark in terms of Acers laptop design. We do not like to be told again about the old Aspire series, whose cases profoundly suffered from constancy tribulations. The Gemstone blueprint distorted a lot. Nonetheless, they lastly also look excellent and undoubtedly idiosyncratic from other brands.

Design
Just a year ago, the preamble of the Gemstone design produced a furor by Acer. At this instance the Acer 5920G was one of the 1st variants taking benefit of the new-fangled design. These days the Acer Aspire 6920G marks a new course. Once more, a new-fangled design is launched, which is noticeably based on the preceding Gemstone blueprint, but, conveys a lot of changes about. The most significant dissimilarity is the ground-breaking display, which bring about a new system of the case.

Performance
It goes devoid of saying that a newly revealed multimedia laptop should also be planted with the majority of newest hardware. Acer powers the Aspire 6920G with most recent constituents by Intel and NVidia. The reviewed laptop came planted with a Penryn CPU, a T8100 with 2.1 GHz and 3 MB L2- memories Cache. Even though this is at present the slightest powered Penryn CPU, its presentation is nonetheless better when compared to one of the equally clocked Merom CPU produced by Intel.

The display of the notebook has a display resolution of 1366x768 pixels, so, it does not sustain full High Definition resolution (1900x1080 pixels), but only lesser resolutions in 16:9 facet ratio. On the other hand, Acer renders also an Aspire 6920G with a genuine full high definition display.
The dimensions of the keys are measured at 18mm x 18mm and the layout is customary, apart from additional keys for euro & dollar positioned next to the cursor keys. The Acer Aspire 6920G is planted with a 4400 mAh Li-Ion battery (48.8 Watt hour rating), which should make a travelable runtime probable. A maximum runtime of 165 minutes was observed. Regrettably the clamor of the fan is a little bit too piercing, particularly if run with low load. On the contrary, the exterior temperatures of the Aspire 6920G are extremely low.

Overall
The Acer Aspire 6920G established to be a good laptop in our test. With the decent processor speeds and ably supported RAM and a configuration put together to rule the sector. The gaming attitude of the notebook is also decent enough, but could have been a bit more enhanced. The Battery life is good, and an overall cool performance, but still can be improved.

Pros
+ Build quality is high.
+ Good Accessories and inclusions.
+ Well sorted out configuration.
+ Good battery.

Cons
- Cooling fan is noisy.
- Priced at the higher end.

RADEON HD 3200 GRAPHICS FROM THE HOUSE OF AMD

The Radeon HD 3200 Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) at the hub of Puma is possibly the most exhilarating division of the platform, and lawfully so. It offers quite a few features that Intels IGPs just cant touch and NVIDIA is under pressure to keep up with. First and principal, the HD 3200 is one of the most - if not THE most - power-efficient IGPs available today. At the same time, its without doubt the greatest, being essentially an intact Radeon HD 2400 with practically no changes prepared to it. As a consequence, it shares the reimbursements of that ancestry, including 2 key features: 5.1 sound over HDMI and UVD (Unified Video Decoder). While resonance over HDMI isnt an enormous development, its supported natively in the Radeon HD 3200, building design simpler for OEMs. It also permits easy association to high-definition televisions, and in my opinion I think notebooks serving double duty as media center computers may coil up becoming a increasing niche because of this.

The 2nd, the Unified Video Decoder (UVD), is a huge deal. UVD permits the computer to delegate video decoding from the central processor to the graphics processor. While this isnt a huge deal for watching DVDs or nearly all or any standard classification fare, watching high-definition substance can cause processor handling to shoot straight up or even max out entirely, parting you with stuttering video. The insertion of UVD tolerates for Blu-ray to persist trickling down the marketplace as well as civilizing battery life by plummeting processor strain in decoding high-definition capture.

ACER ASPIRE ONE AOD 150 1165 QUICK REVIEW

It’s All About The Price Tag For The Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165

Acer took the lead from Asus in the mini-notebook market in late 2008, after having entered the market only in July 2008. And it is bound to cement its number one position with the launch of the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 - and its stake on the number one spot, not surprisingly, comes down to its almost unbelievably affordable price tag.

Acer’s Aspire One series is perhaps one of the most, if not the most popular series of mini-notebooks in this exponentially growing category. And why wouldn’t it be? At less than four hundred US dollars a piece, you already get a decent netbook that’s stylish, compact and functional. In the highly competitive market of laptops and mini-notebooks, innovation and constant improvement are key, and the latest of Acer’s Aspire One netbooks definitely attempts to take the series to the next level in terms of quality. And the best part is, it is able to maintain an ultra-affordable, value-for-money retail price at only USD350.

At first glance, the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 does not look very different from its predecessor, but upon closer inspection, various improvements give this latest model a definite edge over its forerunners. Looks-wise, it’s been given a glossy feel and finish that’s considerably different from its predecessor’s much more solid hues. Functionally, it now sports a slightly bigger monitor at ten inches, compared to the previous Aspire One’s 8.9-inch screen. Much of its other technical specifications stay true to the spirit of what mini-notebooks are usually intended for – simple, no-nonsense, and portable computers. It runs on a relatively standard 1.6Ghz Atom Processor, has 1GB worth of memory and a 160GB hard drive, running on Windows XP. Not bad for a computer that will cost you fifty dollars less compared to its competitors.

Opinions are mixed on Aspire One’s “improved” keyboard and touchpad – understandably a common problem in mini-notebooks given their size, but one that Acer’s competitors such as Asus and Hewlett-Packard have managed to improve on with their latest models. Some find Aspire One’s latest keyboard and touchpad - though apparently already improved from the previous model – still difficult and uncomfortable to use. Others have probably gotten used to the older models of Aspire and don’t mind the relatively cramped keyboard and small touchpad. If you’re not particularly sensitive to such details (or have unusually small fingers), this shouldn’t be a problem, especially if there’s one other thing that you’re more concerned about, and that is the matter of price.

Because if there’s one common denominator among reviews of the Aspire One, it’s that it may not be the best mini-notebook out in the market, but it gets away with it by being the most affordable netbook out there.

Price: Aprrox. $400
